Restoration of classic cars
The removal of old lacquers, corrosion or protective coat is not simple, and many parameters must be taken into consideration:
- The vehicle parts should not be dented
- Sensitive components must be protected in an optimum manner
- The correct blasting system for optimum subsurface preparation must be selected.
Depending on the kind and needs of the customer, we select between two systems, the soft blasting system and the dry ice blasting. Here is an example for classic car restoration
Elastic protective undercoating is removed with the help of dry ice blasting. Existing old lacquer and corrosion are completely removed with the help of soft blasting in a protective manner with less pressure and a special fine grain size. Subsequently, the vehicle is checked by the customer for corroded defective spots, it is re-worked and subsequently again post-blasted if need be.
Critical weak spots such as sills, engine bay and car trunk, and edges of vehicles are protected continuously with the help of thermal zinc spraying. Zinc is heated to more than 400° C and applied on the object.
After this processing, all the surfaces are undercoated with a 2 K EP- acryl filler with a thickness of 60 micros and then, these surfaces are ready for other coats.
