Drinking water coating
Recommendations pertaining to synthetic materials in contact with drinking water
Professional protection of drinking water plant- systems for the inner and outer coating
The most valuable natural resource of our Earth is not gold or crude oil, but water. Because water is the basis for all living things. Everything comes from it, it is used everywhere for survival - water cannot be replaced. One perceives it with all the senses, it refreshes, it invigorates and is as necessary as air, which we breathe. Above all, water is the most important food and therefore, must be available always in its best quality.
Concrete and steel in the inner- and outer area of water supplying devices are to be protected dependably - this requires long years of practical experience: Since small particles adhere to the raw concrete in shrink holes and cleaning can be undertaken only with difficulty, the inner sides of the drinking water containers, filtering plants or atomisation rooms are provided with long-lasting coats and coatings. They not only cater to smoothest possible, hygienic surface, but they also need to be adjusted to the current hardness grade of drinking water.
Systems for inner coating of drinking water plants made from concrete
Such coatings are exclusively used in the new construction as well as maintenance of drinking water containers, filtering plants or atomisation rooms made from concrete; these coatings protect the structure on one hand and on the other, match with the high hygienic standard:
- In order to achieve optimum consistence, a low total porosity must be ensured.
- The surface must be cleaned with less expenditure and therefore, must be as smooth as possible.
- The coating has to protect the concrete from chemical attacks, for e.g. chalk-aggressive CO2.
- A long life must be ensured even in case of strong hydrolytic corrosion.
- And incidentally, the coating must compensate the constructional defects and scopes of design with regard to colour are open.
Corrosion protection- systems for plants made of steel and galvanized steel
Depending on whether the inner surfaces that come in contact with drinking water or the outer surfaces that come in contact with condensed water of pipes, fittings and containers need to be coated. Likewise, a technical implementation of all coating work is important:
- Only experienced specialist firms with appropriate device fittings are in a position to ensure a proper processing under often difficult spatial and climatic conditions.
- In that case, the surface preparations as well as the post-treatment have special significance: Steel is basically to be blasted in the preparation degree of Sa 2 1/2, high-alloyed steel and aluminium is to be swept.
- And the exact adherence of dry- and hardening instructions finally guarantees an effective, functional corrosion protection.
