Water Management Act-coatings

Why Water Management Act- coatings?

Coating- systems - out of our responsibility towards our environment and for protection of our water. The basic concern §19g of Water Management Act "Plants for handling water-hazardous substances" is...

"Plants for storage, filling up, manufacture and handling water-hazardous substances and also plants for using water-hazardous substances in the field of industry and in the field of public facilities must be designed and incorporated, erected, maintained and operated such that contamination of water bodies as well as disadvantageous change in their properties need not be dealt with."
...they must be consistent, stable and must be sufficiently resistant to the mechanical, thermal and chemical influences. (VawS §3).

The requirements of these plants are determined according to §6 of VawS depending on their potential to damage (Consideration of water hazard classes (WGK) and of storage volume).

The operator of such plants is legally obligated to take suitable measures. This requirement is applicable for old and new plants. Demands of WHG-coatings?

- Impermeable and resistant to the used or stored fluids
- resistant to aging
- resistant to weathering
- High wear-out resistance 0 crack bridging
- Optimum cleaning capacity 0 De-contaminable
- Implementation only on suitably old or new sub-surfaces.

Coating-systems according to construction and test principles for coatings of drain pans. Coatings for concrete surfaces, cleaning surfaces and plaster floor surfaces of drain pans and collector rooms for heating oil and diesel, unused oil of combustion engines and gear oils as well as mixtures of saturated and aromatic hydrocarbons with an aromate content of 20% by weight and a flash point > 550 C.

Any other additional requirements as conditioned by the plant "passable with soft tyres (rubber-, vulcanised- or polyamide tyres)", anti-skid", electrically conductive while using or storage of combustible fluids of hazard class A1, A2 or B according to VbF. Anti-skid and additionally electrically conductive".

Only those coatings are approved which have a technical approval with the test symbol of "German Institute for construction technology" (DIBt) taking into consideration the principles of construction and testing.

The surfaces to be coated are to be verified for your suitability before implementing the coatings and they may be cleansed and prepared with suitable measures such as for e.g. shot-blast, sand-blast, milling, grinding.

Depending on the subsurface, certain, additional scratch-resistant or compensatory layers are required for equalization of surfaces on the subsequent coating system. These layers must ensure a uniform coating thickness.
